Caring For Your Eye Wear

You spend a lot of time and money finding the perfect pair of eyeglasses, taking care of them is one of the best things you can do. Knowing how to care for them will make a big difference in how well you see and enjoy wearing them.

Cleaning your frame and lenses on a regular basis can help you see clearly and keep your spectacles looking new. Any lens material can scratch over time depending on what they are exposed to and what accidents may occur.

Here are some tips that will help you care for your glasses:

  1. Purchase lens cleaner and a microfiber cleaning cloth from your local optometrist. Spray the lenses on both sides with the cleaning solution and wipe dry with the micro fibre cloth.
  1. Dust and dirt particles will accumulate on your lenses over time. Oils from your skin and the environment may get onto the lenses, and this quickly attracts dust and dirt. The particles may get trapped in places on your glasses that aren’t easy to reach during normal cleaning with a lens cloth and spray. Run warm water over each lens. Apply a few drops of mild dish wash to wet hands and lather, and then gently wipe your fingertips on the frame and lenses. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry with a soft, clean towel or a microfibre cloth.
  1. Every time you clean your glasses, check the screws that hold the frame together. Over time, they may become loose and need to be tightened. Use a very small screwdriver or see an optician for assistance.
  1. Do not rest the glasses face down on the lens when putting them down as this will scratch them, it is difficult to see through scratched lenses.

With proper care and cleaning, spectacles should last you till your next check-up. Remember, you can always stop by your optometrist for help with cleaning and adjustments.
